Walk among ancient temples, theaters, and basilicas; trace the footsteps of apostles; and feel the echoes of devotion that have endured for centuries. Day 1 – Arrival in Izmir
Welcome to Izmir, the vibrant city once known as ancient Smyrna. Upon arrival, meet your guide and transfer to your hotel. If time allows, begin your journey with a visit to St. Policarp Church, one of the earliest Christian landmarks in the region.
Day 2 – Pergamon & Thyatira
Step into history at the legendary city of Pergamon. Walk through the dramatic acropolis, admire the soaring Trajan Temple, and stand in awe before the steepest theater of the ancient world. Continue to Thyatira, a city mentioned in the Book of Revelation, where the ruins echo the voice of early Christianity.
Day 3 – Smyrna Agora, Sardis & Philadelphia
Begin your morning at the Agora of ancient Smyrna, where layers of history unfold beneath the modern city of Izmir. Continue to Sardis, once the glittering capital of the Lydian Kingdom. Here you’ll encounter the monumental Temple of Artemis and the remains of the largest synagogue discovered outside of Israel. In the afternoon, travel to Philadelphia, the “city of brotherly love,” and explore the ruins that once witnessed early Christian gatherings.
Day 4 – Hierapolis & Laodicea
Journey to the ancient healing city of Hierapolis, built above the white travertine terraces of Pamukkale. Discover its expansive necropolis, the grand theater, and the sacred tomb of Apostle Philip. Then continue to Laodicea, one of the Seven Churches of Revelation. Among its basilicas, theaters, and colonnaded streets, you’ll sense the spiritual and cultural significance of this once-thriving city.
Day 5 – Ephesus & St. John’s Basilica
Experience the magnificence of Ephesus, one of the best-preserved cities of the ancient world. Stroll along marble avenues lined with temples and fountains, stand before the Celsus Library, and imagine the roar of crowds in the Great Theater. Later, visit the Basilica of St. John and the Ephesus Archaeological Museum, where relics bring the ancient metropolis back to life.
